Recreational burning is banned in La Center, Battle Ground and unincorporated Clark County due to the extreme dry weather. The areas joined Vancouver, which banned recreational fires Wednesday.
That means no campfires, outdoor fire pits or fireplaces, or portable fireplaces. Using gas and charcoal barbecues is OK, as are self-contained camp stoves.
“A small campfire can accidentally spread to adjacent properties very easily with our current dry conditions,” said Clark County Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway. “This is a preventive measure designed to reduce that risk.”
Last month, Dunaway canceled all outdoor burning permits issued by Clark County this year. Permits can be reissued or extended when the burn ban is lifted.
