Mount Adams fires 63 percent contained

TROUT LAKE — The Mount Adams Complex of small wildfires in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest is 63 percent contained and crews are being demobilized.

The Canyon and Seven Lakes fires were evaluated Sunday night by heat detection devices and found to be out, according to the Washington Interagency Incident Management Team website.

Three Hotshot crews are mopping up the perimeter of the 63-acre Riley Fire. The remaining heat is scattered through the northern portion of the fire.

Crews also are evaluating the perimeter and extinguishing hot spots today at the Horseshoe Fire, the largest in the complex at 340 acres.

The Spiral Fire was detected Sunday afternoon burning along lava beds west of the Mount Adams Complex. One crew and a helicopter responded and work continued today to suppress the fire.

The Spiral Fire site is much drier than the high-elevation fires, closer to Mount Adams.

Personnel fighting the Mount Adams Complex is down to 228. The closure of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail between Killen Creek No. 113 and road No. 23 continues.
