Union Ridge will offer all-day kindergarten

RIDGEFIELD — Union Ridge Elementary School will begin offering full-day kindergarten in the upcoming school year starting Sept. 1.

All kindergarten students within Union Ridge’s school boundary will be eligible for the state-funded program, which is based upon the number of students at each school who qualify for free and reduced lunches.

Both of Ridgefield School District’s two elementary schools had been in line to receive state funding in the event other districts turned down the program. South Ridge Elementary School doesn’t meet the state’s threshold for funding and won’t begin offering full-day kindergarten until the 2016-2017 school year, according to a school district press release.

District officials received confirmation Thursday that Union Ridge Elementary would receive the funding.

“I’m very excited to offer full-day kindergarten to this year’s newest Tater Tots,” said Tracey MacLachlan, Union Ridge’s interim principal. “Early learning is essential, and being able to provide this consistent instruction will be a tremendous benefit for our kindergarteners.”

Kindergarten and new student registration information is available at www.ridge.k12.wa.us. Parents may submit registration paperwork to the school beginning Aug. 19. Contact the district office with questions at 360-619-1301.
