A 73-year-old man was injured Saturday when he fell about 20 feet off of a hiking trail near Middle Falls on the Lewis River in Skamania County.

The man, George Cliffe, was hiking with his daughter, Leslie Cliffe, 47, of Portland, when he fell at about 3 p.m. Saturday, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office. His daughter reported that her dad was unconscious on a riverbank when she left to find cellphone service.

A sheriff’s deputy found Leslie Cliffe, who led the deputy to her father. Her father had regained consciousness but could not move. North County Emergency Medical Services and the Volcano Rescue Team helped get the man to an awaiting ambulance.

He was flown by helicopter to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said. His condition was not available Sunday.
