Timbers 2 — and maybe some first-team Timbers who didn’t play long minutes on Saturday against Vancouver — will take on English Premier League club Newcastle United at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Park.

Tickets are available for the exhibition match, which is part of the Timbers’ season-ticket package.

Timbers coach Caleb Porter said that he and Timbers 2 coach Jay Vidovich will cooperate more than usual in determining the lineup for this match, given the caliber of the opponent.

In addition to Timbers who have played multiple games on loan to T2 — Michael Nanchoff, George Fochive, Nick Besler and Taylor Peay, for example — several first-team Timbers who saw little or no action last Saturday might play 45 miinutes tonight, according to Porter.

This is the final game of a three-match United States preseason swing for Newcastle, which lost 2-1 to Mexico’s Club Atlas in Milwaukee and beat the USL’s Sacramento Republic 2-1.

Newcastle finished 15th in the 20-team Premier League last season.
