TROUT LAKE — The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail No. 2000 through Mount Adams Wilderness is open again for hiking. The route has been closed due to the Horseshoe and Riley fires earlier in July.

However, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest on Tuesday did announce a closure of a large area on the west side of Mount Adams, including land both inside and outside the wilderness area.

The closed area is north and west of the Pacific Crest Trail, south and west of Divide Camp trail No. 112 and east of Gifford Pinchot road No. 23. Riley trail No. 64 and Riley South trail No. 64A are in the closed area.

The closure order is effective through Sept. 30.
