Free back-to-school vaccinations available

As the new school year approaches, Clark County Public Health officials are reminding parents about free back-to-school vaccinations.

Health officials are concerned the local whooping cough outbreak will surge again this fall, when kids return to school, and are urging parents to make sure their children are up-to-date on all vaccines. Children who aren’t fully immunized may be sent home from school if a disease outbreak occurs.

All vaccines required for school are free for those up to age 19. Some providers may charge an administrative fee, but parents who can’t afford the fee can ask to have it waived.

Families without a regular health care provider can receive free back-to-school vaccinations at the following events (bring immunization records):

• 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground. Call 360-566-4409 for an appointment. Immunizations provided by Sea Mar.

• 5 to 7 p.m. first and third Wednesday of the month at Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, 4100 Plomondon St., Vancouver. Walk-in, uninsured children only. 360-313-1390.

• 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at LaCamas Medical Group, 3240 N.E. Third Ave., Camas. Walk-in children younger than 18. 360-838-2440.
