WASHINGTON — Seven former U.S. diplomats and State Department officials are urging leaders of Congress to support the nuclear deal with Iran.

In a letter released on Monday, the diplomats and officials say that the risks for the United States and Israel will be much higher without the agreement in place. The signatories say they see no fatal flaws that should prompt Congress to reject the deal. Moreover, they say those opposed have not proposed any viable alternatives.

Among those who signed are former ambassadors to Israel James Cunningham, William Harrop, Daniel Kurtzer, Thomas Pickering and Edward Walker Jr.

Congress has 60 days to review the international agreement with Iran to curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Congress can approve or reject it or take no action.
