Five dogs and four guns were seized from a couple charged with running a dog-fighting operation in South Seattle, according to charging documents released Tuesday.

After the Seattle Animal Shelter received complaints of dogs owned by 30-year-old Erich Daulo and 35-year-old Tammy Nguyen tied up and barking in a yard, authorities investigated, charging documents say. One officer noticed a dog with scars on its face, neck and shoulder area, “consistent with scarring found on dogs involved in illegal animal fighting,” the documents say.

Police eventually landed on a website that advertised the couple’s dogs for sale and described their pit bulls as having the bloodlines of famous fighting dogs, according to the documents.

An undercover officer emailed Nguyen about purchasing the dogs. Nguyen replied with prices and said the dogs are “like gold and top quality,” the documents say. An undercover officer then met up with Daulo at a local grocery store under the guise of buying a dog named “Muneca.”

Daulo reportedly showed an officer pictures and a video of his dogs fighting. Soon after the undercover officer bought the dog, police arrested him and obtained warrants to search the couple’s home and another residence. Officers recovered four guns and $26,000 in cash, according to the documents. Police say they seized five dogs.

Daulo is a convicted felon, with two active Seattle arrest warrants from 2008. He was living in Louisiana for seven years, police say.

Nguyen and Daulo were charged with two counts of animal fighting and Daulo was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree.

Daulo’s bail was set at $75,000, according to King County prosecutor’s spokesman Dan Donohoe. Nguyen’s bail was posted at $20,000. Both will be arraigned on Aug. 10 at the King County Courthouse.
