SPOKANE — A Tacoma man wants Spokane Public Schools to rename Wilson Elementary because he says the 28th president was a segregationist and a racist.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper reports the former president’s policies and views on race have bothered Dan Hasty for years.
He lives near Tacoma’s Woodrow Wilson High School and has also sent a letter to the Tacoma school board asking for a name change.
The school board in Spokane says it will consider his request, but a district spokesman said the likelihood of change is slim.
