• Morgen Glessing, 22, of Woodland reported in Monday from Bend, Ore., where he was taking a rest day. He has now hiked 1,950 miles.
“Less than a week ago, I hiked along the rim of Crater Lake and it was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen….I spent hours sitting near the lookouts just gazing at the water.”
He recently hiked his first 40-mile day.
“It was difficult, but the smoother Oregon terrain made it doable,” he wrote. “It is quite a feeling to accomplish the equivalent of a marathon and a half in one day. The scenery is slowly becoming like that of the Pacific Northwest and I know soon I will be hiking through areas that were some of my first backpacking experiences.”
