SEATTLE — The Washington Department of Labor & Industries has fined a Seattle marine terminal operator more than $400,000 for more than 50 serious safety and health violations at its Harbor Island facility. The state began investigating Seattle Bulk Shipping after a worker was hospitalized with injuries when he fell into an underground grain storage pit in December.

The $424,850 fine is among the largest Labor & Industries penalties of a business in recent years.
