SALEM, Ore. — Work-related deaths are declining historically in Oregon but reached a five-year high in 2014. Insurance-compensated deaths have been decreasing since the 1970s and are down so far this year compared to last.

The 31 compensated worker deaths reported to the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services in 2014 is the highest number seen in five years. Vehicle accidents accounted for nearly half of the fatalities.

Numbers for loggers have been high so far this year, at six deaths compared to one by the same time in 2014.
