Centralia — Centralia College will be offering two new job training programs starting in September.

The college will offer a two-year training program in industrial automation, an associate’s degree program that prepares students for entry-level positions in the installation, repair and preventative maintenance of industrial machinery, as performed by industrial maintenance mechanics or millwrights.

Students who complete the program will earn flagger, forklift, first aid, CPR and industry-specific robotics certifications.

“The industrial automation program includes training in electronics, robotics, mechatronics and welding to expose students to skills necessary to repair, install, adjust and maintain industrial machinery,” Durelle Sullivan, dean of Workforce Education, said. “The program was developed with local employers who have jobs available right now.”

The college will also be offering a new land survey and mapping technician program, a one-year job training program that teaches mapping, field survey techniques and office skills using hands-on training on a variety of instruments.

Students can simultaneously earn both a Land Survey and Mapping Technician Certificate and a Computer-Aided Certificate.

“If you enjoy math and computers, but can’t stand the idea of working at a desk all day, you’re a perfect candidate for training as a survey tech,” Ann Alves, program coordinator, said. “This is a great field for people who love hiking, fishing, hunting and just being outside. This is a really rewarding career because the wages are high, and there are a lot of jobs available.”

Fall classes start Sept. 21 and early registration is recommended, especially for students seeking financial aid.
