Firefighters spent about an hour trying to knock down a house fire in Camas on Monday evening, partly because the home’s interior and yard were covered with debris.
The fire was reported at 7:08 p.m. at 20009 N.E. 11th St., which is several blocks east of Northeast 192nd Avenue. Arriving firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from a side window.
Vancouver Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Steele said it was a challenging fire because the house was at the end of a dead-end road with no fire hydrant. So the fire department had to bring its own water supply.
The house also was surrounded by stuff. It took about 20 minutes to get debris out of the way, so firefighters could get to the front door, Steele said. A Google image of the property shows a yard full of vehicles and other possessions.
