Beacon Rock park planning scheduled June 11

STEVENSON — An informational workshop to start the update of the Beacon Rock State Park management plan will begin at 6:30 p.m. June 11 at Hegewald Center, 710 S.W. Rock Creek Drive.

The updated plan will address changes including property acquisition, recreation needs and resource protection.

State Parks officials will answer questions and take comments. A sign-up opportunity for serving on a climbing committee also will be part of the meeting.

The 5,100-acre park is in western Skamania County. It includes 840-foot Beacon Rock, the core of an ancient volcano. The park has more than 20 miles of roads and trails open to hiking, mountain bikes and equestrian use.
