I read with sickening stomach the June 1 report about “Ex-Nazis got $20.2M in Social Security” and are living peacefully in the U.S. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. Annie Jacobsen has written extensively along this line in her book, “Operation Paperclip: the Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Scientists to America.”
Jacobsen documents that immediately after World War II the CIA was concerned about all the scientists and doctors who were working under Adolf Hitler. The CIA did not want them to fall into the hands of the Russians, so they, very secretly, brought 1,600 of them to the U.S. They then did their best to find good jobs/positions for them. Most of these were responsible for many deaths in various hot spots in Germany, but this was kept secret from the American press.
Yes, some of these scientists put us on the moon, but did our country need all these wicked people? Why were they allowed to get away with their horrendous actions? Less than 100 Nazis and co-conspirators were sentenced at the Nuremberg trials. It’s enough to make a citizen sick with disgust. The book is available from the city library.
