Shumway — The Classic Wine Auction donated $439,759 to YWCA Clark County on May 27 to empower struggling families and individuals.

This year’s auction raised nearly $3.2 million for five charities in Southwest Washington and Portland. The YWCA Clark County will use the funds to provide shelter for 6,181 bed nights at its SafeChoice Domestic Violence Shelter, advocacy for 5,359 individuals through staff and volunteers of the Sexual Assault Program, nutritious meals and a quality education for 75 children from homeless, transitioning, or low-income circumstances through the Care Children’s Program.

It will also provide life, career and education guidance for 180 youth aging out of the foster care system through its Independent Living Skills Program and a voice in court for 866 abused, abandoned and neglected children through the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program, according to a release from the organization.

The other benefiting organizations the auction raised money for this year are New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children – Portland, Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel and Metropolitan Family Services.
