Weather Eye: As we push 90 degrees, not much rain in sight in coming weeks

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah! Zip-a-dee-ay! My, oh my, what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine heading our way. Zip-a-dee-doo-dah! Zip-a-dee-ay!

I’m sure ol’ Jiminy Cricket would be kicking his heels under our current weather pattern and singing to the tree tops. Of course, he wouldn’t need his umbrella anytime soon with no rain in sight.

Another hot day today and Monday and then we see winds switch from the north to the northwest allowing cooler ocean air to filter inland. And, of course, this is June, folks, so some morning clouds and afternoon sunshine are in the offing.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, in Vancouver the thermometer was a hot 88 degrees, just shy of that 90-degree mark. I had 89 degrees here in Salmon Creek. Had it warmed up just a bit after 5 p.m., then that would have been our first 90-degree day in 2015. We should for sure hit 90 degrees (or better) today and close to it Monday.

Saturday was our warmest day since Sept. 20, when it was 94 degrees. It is not uncommon for June to present a smattering of 90-degree high temperatures. It is kind of out of the norm, however, as we generally think of June as a transition month between spring and summer, with the hot stuff erupting after July Fourth.

I don’t see much rainfall, if any, in the next couple of weeks, and June may end up as forecast as a dry and warm month. Thank goodness we had that shot of rain last week that totaled an inch or more in some areas of the county. I guess we tag that one as the Rose Festival Low that was a no-go for the parade Saturday. Not too many years like this one! More typical is morning clouds, maybe some mist or drizzle, with clearing skies by parade’s end.

Enjoy the sunshine, wear sunscreen, keep hydrated and be safe. We’ll chat on Tuesday.
