Forum to focus on Northwest Forest Plan

The Columbian
Published: June 9, 2015, 12:00am

A public forum Tuesday will detail a set of draft reports analyzing forests, wildlife and other trends in the two decades since the Northwest Forest Plan was adopted.

The plan, adopted in 1994, changed the direction of 19 national forests and other federal lands within the range of the northern spotted owl. The goal of the plan was to maintain a healthy forest ecosystem while sustaining predictable supplies of timber and forest products, according to the Forest Service. But timber harvests in the region have plummeted since the early 1990s.

Tuesday’s forum lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St. The event will also be broadcast online via webinar at http://emsp.intellor.com/login/420167.

The draft reports on the Northwest Forest Plan are available online at www.reo.gov/monitoring/reports/20yr-report.
