A vehicle crashed into a power pole and caught fire, causing a brief outage early Saturday morning.

A 17-year-old Portland girl was driving east on Northeast Minnehaha Street when she took her eyes off the roadway to look at written directions and crashed into a power pole, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Neither the driver or her passenger were injured in the crash, which occurred in the 3800 block of the street. Both girls escaped the vehicle before it caught fire, burning the pole and nearby vegetation, the sheriff’s office said.

There was no impairment and no citations issued, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash did cause a brief outage, with 2014 customer affected. Nearly all of those customers had their power back on at 1:12 a.m., with the small remainder of customers regaining power by 3 a.m., according to Clark Public Utilities spokeswoman Erica Erland.

Another outage Saturday, caused by an issue at the 20th and F Street substation, affected 724 customers at 2:40 p.m. Power was restored about an hour later.
