Letter: Bind governing to Constitution

The Columbian
Published: June 10, 2015, 12:00am

Unfettered capitalism once made us the richest nation on earth. Our Constitution made us the freest.

Our United States Constitution — that brilliantly conceived document that kept us a free people for over two centuries by defining and limiting the powers our government wields over us — does not need to be tampered with or “improved” by silly, intellectually deficient politicians. As Thomas Jefferson said, “We shall bind the government from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”

If ever there was a time when we needed a Constitution to bind our government from overreach and potential tyranny, it is now. Without our Constitution, or with our Bill of Rights mutilated beyond recognition, or with its brilliant mandates being simply ignored (as is frequently done by the Obama administration), America will no longer be America, the land of the free, that we once loved and fought to preserve.
