Chain reaction crash causes heavy damage to gas station

A vehicle collision at a Maplewood neighborhood intersection Wednesday morning caused a chain-reaction crash that took out a gas station pump and part of a building.

Witnesses said a white 1990 Honda Accord traveling west on Fourth Plain Boulevard ran a red light at the Grand Boulevard intersection about 5:30 a.m., Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

A black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck traveling south on Grand Boulevard entered the intersection and collided with the Honda, Kapp said.

The pickup then continued into a 76 gas station at the corner of the intersection, hitting a gas pump, Kapp said. The gas pump was propelled through the parking lot and hit a parked minivan, she said.

The pickup then crashed into a convenience store building, bringing an outside icebox along with it, Kapp said.

No one was injured, Kapp said, and the gas to the area was quickly turned off, so no gas leaks were reported.

Officers did not make an arrest or citation at the scene but are investigating the incident.
