Save the Date: Celebrate dad with brews, cars and more

Sip in the sunny weather during this weekend’s Summer Brewfest. With 25 Northwest breweries offering 50 different beers to try, it’s a great place for adults to watch and cheer on the participants in the Freedom 5K today and Vancouver USA Marathon on Sunday. The brewfest is open noon to 10 tonight and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Esther Short Park, 301 W. Eighth St., Vancouver. If your dad’s passion is chrome and speed, head to the Touchmark Car Show, which runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Close to 150 automobiles will be on display, ranging from classics to customs. A highlight will be the 1977 308 Ferrari once owned and driven by actor Paul Newman. There will also be car clubs, entertainment and a complimentary barbecue at Touchmark at Fairway Village, 2911 S.W. Village Loop, Vancouver. On Tuesday, the summer Public Archaeology Field School begins, as students of Washington State University Vancouver and Portland State University start digging into the past. The public can visit two active sites as students look for the Hudson’s Bay Company’s cooper’s shop and excavate the site of the World War I spruce mill through July 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1001 E. The beer continues to flow at the 22nd annual Gorge Blues and Brews Festival. The festival kicks off with a purely local celebration of brews and musicians from 6 to 10 p.m. June 26, with free admission and dancing. The main event runs noon to 10 p.m. June 27, as 16 regional craft breweries will join a multitude of live blues musicians on two stages, headlined by Patrick Lamb and the Funkified Band. It all takes place at the Skamania County Fairgrounds, 650 S.W. Rock Creek Drive, Stevenson. Admission is free for June 26, $20 for June 27, for those 21 and older. www.gorgebluesandbrews.com

It’s part road trip, part art show as more than 40 local artists and artisans showcase their work during Arts on the Mountain. Visitors can travel to six venues along state Highway 504 from to the Mount St. Helens Science and Learning Center. Each artist will be displaying one piece inspired by the volcano itself, with activities from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 27-28. The stops are the Science & Learning Center at Coldwater, Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center, Twosome Art Studio, Toutle Lake School, Mount St. Helens RV Park, and the Silver Lake Grange. Don’t miss the 10th annual Recycled Arts Festival. To mark the occasion, the festival commissioned a Tin Man sculpture, made of recycled materials, for it’s “tinth” anniversary. The festival includes the work of hundreds of artists using reusable materials, music by local bands, the popular sculpture garden, and recycled item crafts. Scott Woodward will discuss “Teddy Roosevelt: Wilderness Warrior in Washington” for July’s First Thursday Lecture. Attendees can learn about how the 17-city whistle stop tour President Teddy Roosevelt made in 1903 inspired a legacy of conservation. The lecture is 7 p.m. July 2 at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver.
