A 15-year-old boy who is being tried as an adult in Clark County Superior Court made a first appearance Monday morning to face an allegation of attempted murder, among others.

Roy James Thompson Jr. of Vancouver was remanded to adult court last week in two pending cases: a violent residential burglary and the assault of a staff member at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center during an escape attempt.

Thompson appeared Monday on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree robbery, kidnapping, burglary and assault. He and a co-defendant are accused of breaking into an east Vancouver home in April and assaulting and robbing a 65-year-old woman.

The co-defendant, Vincent R. Burnett, 29, faces the same allegations in addition to possession of methamphetamine.

In the second case, Thompson faces allegations of second-degree assault and second-degree attempted escape, stemming from the May 9 incident at the juvenile center. Thompson is accused of hitting a staff member with a chair while a second juvenile attempted to break out a window. That co-defendant has already been sentenced.

During Monday’s hearing, Judge Derek Vanderwood appointed attorney Nick Wood to represent Thompson.

The prosecution said Thompson has racked up an extensive criminal history since 2013, which has included six bench warrants.

His bail was set at $400,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
