An Evergreen High School teacher was arrested today for allegedly taking an inappropriate picture of a student with his phone. Matthew Morasch, 40, faces two counts of voyeurism.

The picture was allegedly taken in a classroom on June 15, two days before the end of the school year. The school’s student resource officer took the initial report, but the case was forwarded to the Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit. Morasch was put on paid administrative leave the same day of the incident and has not returned to the district since, said district spokeswoman Gail Spolar.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Morasch’s phone and found the image. They also discovered a second inappropriate image of an unknown female at a retail store with a time stamp from April, Vancouver police said.

On June 15, an email was sent by Evergreen Principal Lisa Emmerich to parents of students at the school, letting them know about the investigation into a teacher’s alleged inappropriate behavior.

“Evergreen High School is cooperating fully with the investigation and will take any necessary action based on the findings of the investigation,” Emmerich wrote.

Students who were in the classroom and witnessed the alleged incident were interviewed by detectives.

Morasch was booked into the Clark County Jail, police said.
