BEND, Ore. — Two Central Oregon men were taken to the hospital after they fell into the Deschutes River after being attacked by a beaver near Lava Island Falls.

Sgt. William Bailey of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office says the men were exploring the area Thursday night when they climbed onto a beaver dam and were attacked by a beaver protecting its turf.

One man quickly climbed out the river and sought help for his friend whose clothing got caught on some logs.

The trapped man managed to get out of the water just as the first deputy arrived.

Bailey says the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
