BATTLE GROUND — Under drought conditions and relentlessly hot weather, the city of Battle Ground issued a Stage 1 water shortage alert Friday.

With the warning in place, the city is encouraging residents to amp up water conservation efforts through the summer. For now, Battle Ground has ample water reserves to meet personal consumption and emergency response needs, but that could change.

Over the next few months, residents are encouraged to water their lawns only in the early morning or evening when cooler temperatures set in. City officials also recommend checking for leaking sprinklers nozzles and running appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines only with a full load.
