Blazers Week in Review 03-01

Blazer Beef

Losing a 13-point lead last Sunday against Memphis was the low point of Portland’s week. The Blazers led by 13 in the fourth quarter and the Blazers couldn’t string together enough good possessions to withstand their final run.

The Blazers almost suffered another blown lead Sunday against the Kings, but Damian Lillard thankfully set the clock to Lillard Time down the stretch. Robin Lopez’s flagrant foul on Reggie Evans definitely could have been called a flagrant two. But of course, Evans does more than his share of dirty work to get under player’s skin.

Blazer Bravos

The Blazers performance against the Spurs on Wednesday was probably their most complete performance of the season, overcoming a bad shooting night from Aldridge.

Matthews lit the nets on fire in the fourth quarter and Nicolas Batum was wonderful against the Spurs. But Lillard and Aldridge were big in the final two games of the week.

Aldridge dominated the fourth quarter against the Thunder and Lillard was excellent throughout against Russell Westbrook. Lillard was going through the roughest shooting stretch of his career but has answered by averaging 30 points over his last two games.

Matthews also gets a bravo for scoring 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting while wearing a protective brace on his shooting hand after injuring it vs. Oklahoma City.

By The Numbers

23 — Games Joel Freeland missed before returning Sunday against Sacramento.

10 — Arron Afflalo is averaging just under 10 points per game in his first four games as a Blazer.

20 — The Blazers are 20th in offensive rebound percentage after being second last season.

The Week Ahead

Wednesday at Los Angeles Clippers (7:30 p.m., CSN, ESPN): The Clippers have taken the first two games of the four-game season series.

Thursday vs. Dallas Mavericks (7:30 p.m., TNT): The Mavericks came back from 11 points down in the final three minutes to win 111-101 in OT on Feb. 7.

Saturday at Minnesota (5 p.m., CSN): The Timberwolves re-energized their fans by trading for aging franchise legend Kevin Garnett, but rookie Andrew Wiggins is the man to watch.
