Seattle, Portland boat builders announce merger

The Columbian
Published:

Boat builders Kvichak Marine Industries of Seattle and Vigor Industrial of Portland announced Tuesday a merger of the two companies, with Kvichak to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Vigor.

Vigor merged last year with Oregon Iron Works, which operates a manufacturing site in Vancouver.

Kvichak specializes in work boats and in the commercial fishing industry as a builder of gillnetters, seiners and tenders.

Kvichak’s current owners, Jim Meckley, Brian Thomas and Keith Whittemore, will join Vigor as shareholders and as members of the leadership team, the companies said.

The combined company will employ about 2,500 people in Alaska, Oregon and Washington.
