Go: Ideas for your weekend — Pow Wow, youth talents, movie fun

1. Pow wow

Elaborate headdresses, colorful regalia and the beat from handmade drums will fill Covington Middle School. The Traditional Pow Wow celebrates the heritage of local students who are part of the Evergreen, Vancouver and Battle Ground public schools, and lets them share their cultures with the larger community. Grand Entries ceremonies will be held at 1 and 6 p.m., followed by drum groups and dancers performing traditional dances, songs and storytelling. The event is sponsored by the Native American Indian Education Program Title VII. The pow wow begins at 11 a.m. March 7 at Covington Middle School, 11200 N.E. Rosewood Road, Vancouver. 2. Brassy and bright

A concert for all ages will feature the Columbia River Brass performing a collection of tunes, from the early jazz piece “Tiger Rag” to music from “West Side Story.” The brass group will be joined by Opera Quest Northwest. Five singers and a pianist will present the interactive “Opera the Great,” a performance aimed at elementary students to share the characters, history and famous opera melodies. “Brass on the Loose” begins at 3 p.m. March 8 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. 3. Youthful talents

Ridgefield School District and the community will dedicate the month of March to encourage interest in the arts. The Youth Arts Month Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. March 7, featuring an array of performances by local musicians, vocalists, the Fuse Dance Force and Clark County Poet Laureate Christopher Luna. The concert begins at Old Liberty Theatre, 115 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield, and admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5. 360-887-7260 or www.oldlibertytheater.com. Vancouver Family Magazine hosts its ninth annual Children’s Festival with a variety of activities including performances, demonstrations, games, crafts and storytime from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 7 at Westfield Vancouver mall, 8700 N.E. 4. Lebowski bash

Grand Central Bowling will celebrate the cult film “The Big Lebowski,” rated R, with a themed burlesque performance, movie screening, look-alike contests, photo book, trivia and raffles. Events kick off at 9:30 p.m. March 7 at Grand Central Restaurant and Bowling Lounge, Southeast Eighth and Morrison streets, Portland. 5. Ultra marathon movie

What does it take to run 100 miles? Kiggins Theatre will be showing the ultra-marathon documentary “100 Head/Heart/Feet,” not rated. The movie follows Zak Wieluns as he trains for the Vermont 100 Endurance Race, a 100-mile race that must be completed in less than 30 hours.
