OLYMPIA — The jobless rate in Washington rose slightly in January to 6.4 percent, but state labor officials say they were encouraged that estimates show employment increased by more than 100,000 jobs over the last 12 months.
The Employment Security Department said Tuesday that it estimates employment increased by 100,500 jobs from January 2014 to January 2015, on a not seasonally adjusted basis.
The January jobless figure compares to 6.3 percent in December. The January figure for the United States was 5.7 percent.
Of the 100,500 jobs added over the past year, 89,800 were in the private sectors and 10,700 in the public sector.
