Vancouver’s Daniel Seavey is one of only 12 contestants left on this year’s season of “American Idol” on Fox.

The 15-year-old Union High School student made the latest cut in a broadcast Wednesday and followed the news of his survival with a performance of “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul. Contestants were asked to perform the songs they sang while auditioning for the show.

In Wednesday’s broadcast, he appeared to forget the lyrics about midway through his performance, but he quickly recovered and got the crowd going by stepping away from the microphone stand and grabbing some of the hands that reached at him from the front row.

The judges weren’t impressed.

“You’re young, and you’re inexperienced, and I think compared to what we saw before, the performances haven’t been strong of late,” judge Harry Connick Jr. told Daniel. “And as cute as you are, you’re inexperience is really showing, man.”

That last comment got some boos from the audience.

Judge Keith Urban was kinder: “If you find an emotional song, you’ll kill it.”

“That’s exactly it,” judge Jennifer Lopez said. “It’s going to be the right song to play to your strengths. Let’s make sure whatever we pick, we’re strong the whole way through.”

Daniel took to social media Wednesday to ask his fans — which he’s dubbed his “faniels” — to help keep him in the running.

“This was a really hard week,” he wrote on Twitter. “I’m hoping you guys will give me another chance.”

Daniel is expected to perform again Thursday night in a live two-hour broadcast. Whether he makes it another week will be revealed during next Thursday’s show. For information about how to vote, visit www.americanidol.com/vote.
