Vancouver’s Daniel Seavey passed through another round of elimination Thursday in this year’s season of “American Idol” on Fox.

Seavey, a 15-year-old Union High School student, advanced to the Top 11 in the competition after having difficulty during a Wednesday night performance of “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul in which he appeared to briefly forget the lyrics before recovering.

After learning he had advanced on Thursday, Seavey won praise for his performance of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

“I just want you to know that that performance felt the most comfortable to me of anything you’ve done so far,” said judge Harry Connick Jr. “You looked like a young kid having a good time. Is it going to be able to hang with someone more experienced? I don’t know. But I thought, to me, that was your strongest performance.”

“I think we’re going to hear you next week, Daniel,” said judge Keith Urban. “The reason I say that is because you’ve got such great likability. You sing real good. You’ve got great musicality. You’re so enjoyable to watch. You’re going to progress. You’ve already been doing it.”

“That’s the question,” added judge Jennifer Lopez. “Is this too much of a competition? Is the competition too stiff? But … it’s impossible not to root for you. You’re just that guy.”
