Save the Date: Going for the green — or the farmers market, fish, other fun

Green is the theme this weekend, thanks to rain or St. Patrick’s Day. The Parks Foundation of Clark County’s St. Paddy’s for Kids event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, featuring arts and crafts, nature activities and storytime at Shorty’s Garden and Home, 10006 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Admission is free. www.parksfoundation.us

The St. Paddy’s Dinner and Dance will run 6 p.m. to midnight tonight. Attendees can enjoy an Irish dinner of corned beef and cabbage for all ages from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by dancing and music by Running with Scissors from 8 p.m. to midnight for those 21 and older at the American Legion Cape Horn Post 122, 10221 Washougal River Road, Washougal. Ticket are $15, $25 per couple, $7 for ages 12 and younger and $5 for dance only. 360-837-3470.

The Paddy Hough Parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Celebrating Irish immigrant and pioneer educator Patrick “Paddy” Hough, the annual parade is held in his honor. Neighbors, elementary school students, local businesses and community groups celebrate with live music, marching bands, classic cars and awards for students. Best viewing is on Main Street between 24th Street and McLoughlin Boulevard, with the parade starting from Hough Elementary School, 1900 Daniels St., Vancouver. www.houghfoundation.org

The Vancouver Farmers Market returns March 21, with an array of local vendors offering everything from early spring produce to baked goods and flowers. Registration opens March 18 for Columbia Spring’s annual Kids Fishing Festival. Children ages 5 to 14 can participate in a day of fishing on May 2, with gear and a fishing mentor provided. Each participant is guaranteed to catch a trout to take home, along with lunch and additional activities. The Klineline Kids Fishing Derby is set for April 10-11. Open to children ages 5 to 14, registered participants can learn how to tie flies and cast, catch fish and try out archery at Salmon Creek Park’s Klineline Pond. Registration for a time slot includes a T-shirt, bait, fishing rod and reel. The slots on April 10 are for special needs children and adults. Registration is $5. www.klineline-kf.org

With the tulips beginning to bloom, the Tulip Trot 5K will be a colorful fun run through the Woodland farmlands. Awards given to the top three male and female racers. Tickets for Magenta Theater Company’s next show will go on sale March 16. “Is He Dead?” is an adapted Mark Twain comedy about a painter hoping to clear his debts by faking his death to increase the value of his artwork.
