L.A. Galaxy at Timbers

When and Where: 4:15 p.m. Sunday at Providence Park.

TV/Radio: Live on Fox Sports 1/KXTG AM 750.

Match notes: The Timbers opened the season with a home scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake. The Galaxy opened the post-Landon Donovan era with a 2-0 home win over Chicago. The Galaxy still have 2014 MLS MVP Robbie Keane, who opened the season with a goal. In 85 regular-season appearances for the Galaxy, the Ireland international star has 54 goals and 35 assists. … Defensive midfielder Diego Chara returns after missing the season opener with a thigh bruise that he suffered Feb. 22. He figures to play alongside Jack Jewsbury. … Dating back to last season, the Timbers have posted four consecutive MLS regular-season shutouts, and have played 365 minutes at Providence Park since the last opponent’s goal. After keeping Real Salt Lake’s top offensive players quiet last weekend, the Timbers defense will now be tested by one of the league’s most consistent attack. …. The Galaxy outshot Chicago 12-4, 5-1 on target. Brian Rowe played goalkeeper against Chicago as last season’s starter Jaime Penedo reportedly dealt with some preseason injuries. … As was the case last week with RSL, this is the only scheduled visit of the season by the Galaxy.

Caleb Porter says: “I think it will be exciting. I think there will be chances. I think there will be a nice rhythm and flow to it. Always when we play LA it gets chippy as well, so I think there will be a lot of intensity to the game.”
