Clark College Athletic Report (Week of March 16)

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Final Record: 25-6 overall.

NWAC Tournament results: In its first championship game appearance since 1996, Clark beat Edmonds 78-59 to win the NWAC title. The Penguins broke open a close game by holding Edmonds to 19 points in the second half. Leading Clark were -Darrius Mathis with 18, Evan Garrison with 16, and Rian Bassett with 15.

BASEBALL

Record: 5-5 overall.

This week: Clark plays six games in three days, beginning with a Friday home doubleheader against Wenatchee Valley. Saturday, the Penguins travel to Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma for games against Everett and Pierce College. Clark will stay in Tacoma Sunday to play Tacoma and Everett.

Recent results: Clark traveled to Spokane, where it lost to Spokane 13-0 and to Prairie Baseball Academy 2-0 on Saturday. A doubleheader Sunday was cancelled.

SOFTBALL

Record: 7-5 overall.

This week: Clark travels to Pierce College for a doubleheader Tuesday. The Penguins then play in an inter-region tournament Friday through Sunday at Delta Park in Portland.

Recent results: Clark swept a doubleheader at home Friday over South Puget Sound 12-3 and 16-0. Casey Jones-Allinger had two home runs over the two games. Heritage grad Ashley Edwards was 4 for 6. Katelyn Lukes went the distance in the first game. Kelsey Oldham and Bryce Baucum combined for a shutout in the nightcap.

Wednesday, Clark split a doubleheader at Centralia, winning 3-2 before losing 7-1. Lukes collected the win in the first game, going the distance.

TRACK AND FIELD

This week: Clark has no competition schedules until the Mount Hood Multis March 26-28 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

Recent top results: Columbia River grad Marcus Gaylor won the 200 meters (22.14 seconds) and 400 meters (49.41)at the Saints Open at Mt. Hood Community College on Saturday.
