Community Notebook: Evergreen Lacrosse opens season in fine form

The Evergreen Lacrosse team opened the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association season with a pair of dominating road wins over Bethel and Tahoma.

On March 10, ELC opened the season with a 19-0 win over Bethel in Spanaway. Olivia Hood scored five goals and Madeline McKinnon and Grace Davis each added a pair for Evergreen, which led 11-0 by halftime.

Other Evergreen players to score against Bethel were Sydney Nelson, Abigayel Nesti, Maecy Arthur, Hillary Cruz, Lisa Peterson, Gabby Girolami and Cassidy Morris.

On March 12, Evergreen beat Tahoma 16-2. Davis scored four goals and Hood and Alyssa Mehan scored three apiece.

Evergreen, which includes players from each Evergreen Public Schools high school, plays its first home match of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday at McKenzie Stadium against Sumner. This is its only home match until mid-April.

Boys lacrosse opens this week — The three Clark County boys high school lacrosse teams begin their season this week.

The King’s Way Lacrosse program, now called Columbia River, was scheduled to host Tualatin (Ore.) at 8 p.m. on Monday. Columbia River is slated to play three times this week in the Portland area, visiting Tigard on Tuesday, Beaverton on Friday and Southridge of Beaverton on Saturday.

Union High School will open its season Tuesday at Century High School of Hillsboro, Ore. Camas will start with a non-league match against Wenatchee at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Doc Harris Stadium.

Dolezal places third in Shamrock 1/2 marathon

Eric Dolezal of Vancouver finished third in Sunday’s Shamrock Half, a half marathon that is now part of Portland’s popular Shamrock Run.

Dolezal completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 17 minutes and 59 seconds. Chad Trammell from Seattle won the half marathon in 1:12:08. Johnson Lee of Portland was second in 1:14:45. Lee finished second in January’s Vancouver Lake Half Marathon.

Among the Clark County residents near the front of the Shamrock Run 5-kilometer race were Ahrlin Bauman, Jesse McChesney and Oscar Bauman. Ahrlin Bauman placed third in 15:44, McChesney fourth in 15:46 and Oscar Bauman seventh in 16 minutes. Alyssa Tower of Vancouver was the ninth female finisher of the 5K (19:47).

Swimmers set club marks at Sectional

Chris Xue and Kasey Calwell set Columbia River Swim Team records during the 2015 Speedo Sectional swim championships at the King County Aquatic Center.

The meet featured swimmers 18 and younger from 12 states who achieved qualifying times.

Xue set a club record for the boys 50-yard freestyle, completing the his leg of the CRST 200-yard freestyle relay in 21.42 seconds. The relay team of Xue, Calwell, Jonah Rodewald and Max Dolbinin placed eighth in the 200 free relay.

Individually, Calwell set a new CRST record in the 100-yard backstroke at 51.87 seconds and improved upon his own club record in the 200 breaststroke at 2:05.22.

Area rugby team wins

The Clark County Warriors beat Polk County 37-22 on Saturday to improve to 2-0 in the Rugby Oregon Club Championship, the division for teams that draw players from multiple high schools.

Teams in the Rugby Oregon division for teams that draw from only one school begin the season on March 21. At Lents Park in southeast Portland, Union will play the Portland Pumas at noon, Prairie will take on Newberg at 1 p.m. and Battle Ground will face Lincoln of Portland at 3 p.m.
