BEND, Ore. — A prominent Northwest public relations company is being brought into the dispute over a new college campus in Bend.

The plan to turn OSU-Cascades into a four-year school on Bend’s west side has met resistance. The opening has been delayed a year, until 2016.

Opponents say the new campus would be better on the east or north side, where it wouldn’t have so great an impact on traffic.

The Bend Bulletin reports the school is negotiating over a $100,000 contract with Gallatin Public Affairs.

A school official says the goal is not to persuade opponents but to reach people who could know more about the benefits for the region.

A hearings officer and the Bend City Council have approved the site. It’s being evaluated by state regulators.
