MEDFORD, Ore. — A 19-hour police standoff ended with officers’ fatally shooting a man they say fired at them from a house.

Police identified the man killed Tuesday as Andrew Charles Shipley, 49, of Medford. Seven Medford officers were placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

Police Chief Tim George says the man fired one shot from inside the house, then raised the garage door and fired again, at officers.

George says Shipley’s girlfriend had been evicting him, and his mental health issues were escalating.
