Washougal — Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School played host to Family Science Night on March 5, with nearly 700 students, parents, teachers and volunteers teaming up to work on projects such as making lava lamps, creating Silly Putty, solving engineering problems as a team and blowing up balloons through a chemical reaction. There were also snakes, lizards and turtles on hand for students to observe and touch. The event was organized by teacher Darcy Hickey, who brought the idea over last year from her time at Gause Elementary School. “Kids are natural scientists,” she said. “You ask a kindergartener if they like science, and most will tell you ‘yes’ — because that is their world. They are so curious and explore things daily, trying to figure out how things work.”
