A man allegedly tried to rob people of their cars and robbed stores in Vancouver on Thursday night.

Around 8:30 p.m., a man approached a car that was stopped for traffic at Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and Northeast Coxley Drive, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The man opened the driver’s door, demanded she get out of the car and began reaching for his waistband. The victim shut her door, drove away and called police, Kapp said.

Meanwhile, several people called 911 to report that a man with a similar description had robbed two stores in the nearby strip mall at 10411 E Fourth Plain Blvd., tried to rob another person of their car and broke a glass door, Kapp said.

Nobody was injured during any of the incidents.

Police found a suspect. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of possible drug-related issues. He is 21 years old, but his name was withheld and he hadn’t been booked into jail as of Friday evening.
