A reckless motorcyclist trying to give deputies the slip was reportedly brought to heel Friday night by Jango, a Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer.

At 8:38 p.m., deputies tried to stop a motorcycle that was driving without headlights near Northeast 88th Street and 25th Avenue, according to a CCSO bulletin. The motorcyclist slowed, almost to a stop, then sped away “in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed,” it said.

Deputies discontinued the chase, but other deputies spotted the same motorcyclist still driving recklessly and blowing through stop lights near Northeast 50th Avenue and 99th Street, Northeast St. Johns Boulevard and 78th Street, and Northeast 78th Street and Andresen Road, the bulletin said.

Deputies eventually found the motorcycle abandoned in the roadway near Northeast 71st Street and Parr Lane and brought in Jango and his handler to track the rider.

Jango found and subdued a suspect hiding in the backyard of a residence a few houses away from the motorcycle, the bulletin said.

The man, identified as Benjamin J. Curtis, 34, was treated for injuries suffered in the arrest and booked into Clark County Jail, the bulletin said.
