The U.S. Forest Service has named Tedd Huffman as the new manager of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Huffman will begin his new job in May, succeeding Tom Mulder, who retired in January. Huffman has worked with the forest service since 2001, most recently in Oregon’s Umpqua National Forest as soil and water program manager, according to the agency. His previous forest service assignments include the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia, the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania, and the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest in Colorado.

As the Mount St. Helens monument manager, Huffman will oversee 110,000 acres within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The monument was created by Congress in 1982, two years after the volcano’s catastrophic May 1980 eruption.
