Weather Eye: Clark County should be getting short break from rainy conditions

Lots of weather news around the country, but of course there generally is. Sometimes just not much in our region.

High pressure builds inland today and Friday for fine spring weather, with highs at 70 degrees or better depending on how quick any cloudiness disappears. A weak front may produce some rain or showers late Friday night but overall the weekend is looking not too shabby.

There was an earthquake southwest of Port Hardy in British Columbia on Wednesday. Others saw a series of violent weather, including a tornado that ripped through Moore, Okla. — they certainly don’t deserve that. I watched the live video feed as the tornado went through the city and electrical flashes were everywhere.

My friend in Colorado posted a photo on Facebook with her Christmas cactus in full bloom, while in the background out the window it was snowing like crazy. She mentioned that it was forecast to be 70 degrees Saturday!

And so it goes with spring. Ever-changing, for better or worse. My heart goes out to those who experienced tornadoes Wednesday. Weather watchers such as myself like to watch and be in awe out in the unpopulated Plains, but not near any population at all.

Locally we saw quite a bit of rain this past week but we will enjoy a few nice days through the weekend. Next week another cold trough is forecast to bring more rain and mountain snow. Probably down to pass levels again, but good accumulating snow higher up.

Looking at Web cams Wednesday afternoon, all the snow was gone at Government Camp and temperatures were in the mid- to upper 40s. It was raining at Timberline and snow was melting.

Vancouver is doing amazingly well in the rainfall department so far this month. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday we had 4.73 inches in the bucket, 1.75 inches above average. With the weak front Friday night and the forecasted cold front Tuesday, we will top 5 inches easily.
