CHICAGO — Prosecutors have told a federal judge in Chicago they’ll soon start turning over evidence to lawyers for two suburban cousins accused of plotting terrorist attacks to support the Islamic State group.
Twenty-two-year-old Hasan Edmonds and his 29-year-old cousin, Jonas Edmonds, appeared in court Wednesday but neither spoke.
Prosecutor Barry Jonas told Judge John Lee that prosecutors should be able to hand over most of the evidence within two months.
A complaint says Jonas planned to attack an Illinois military facility while Hasan, who belonged to the Illinois Army National Guard, would join Islamic State fighters.
Agents arrested the men, both from Aurora, in March. Hasan was arrested at a Chicago airport, Jonas was at his home. Both have pleaded not guilty.
