The Clark County Sheriff’s Office central precinct in Brush Prairie closes to the public on April 6.
The precinct, 11608 N.E. 149th St., which opened in 1995, was supposed to be a temporary facility while a new precinct was built, but funding was never approved for a new building. Forty deputies and a support staff member are based out of the Northeast 149th Street precinct. It doesn’t have a community room, waiting area or public restroom and the stairwell does not meet fire codes, the sheriff’s office said.
“It’s important for our citizens to understand that we are not closing central precinct,” said Undersheriff Mike Cooke. “Our deputies will continue to be based at and respond out of the central precinct. The facility is simply not adequate for public access.”
The west precinct in Ridgefield, 505 N.W. 179th St., remains open to the public during regular business hours, along with the headquarters building and jail in downtown Vancouver, 7010 W. 13th St.
