OLYMPIA — State regulators have fined a Port Angeles company nearly $52,000 for violations related to the death of a logger who was struck in the head by a falling tree.

The Department of Labor and Industries issued three violations to Brian Borde Contracting Inc. of Port Angeles. The company has until April 6 to appeal.

The Peninsula Daily News said Borde did not return calls last week seeking comment.

Jeremy Paapke was working at a job site in Quilcene on Sept. 25, when the 23-year-old Port Angeles man was hit in the head by a falling tree.
