Prep roundup: Mountain View gets past Camas in 8 innings

Trevor Moore reached on an error and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Christian Maddox in the eighth inning on Monday as Mountain View edged host Camas 8-7 in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League baseball game.

Camas had an early 5-0 lead, but the Papermakers needed a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Mountain View (4-2) scored five runs in the top of the third on four hits, a walk and an error to tie the game.

Camas (3-3, 3-4 overall) had only three hits in the game but led 5-0 after a four-run second inning that featured four walks and two hit batsmen.

Preston Jones was 2 for 4 with a triple and RBI and Josh Sablan 2 for 5 for Mountain View.

Hunter Bruno knocked in two runs for Camas.

The 4A GSHL completed its first of three rounds of league action. Union topped Skyview 7-1 Monday to improve to 5-1. Skyview, Mountain View, and Battle Ground are each 4-2, with 12 league games to play.

Stars of the day

• Shelby Grover, Heritage softball, pitched a six-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Washougal. She struck out four.

• Mike Spellacy and Isaiah Smith, Battle Ground baseball, had the key hits in the ninth inning, driving in the two runs to give the Tigers a 7-5 win over Evergreen.

• Brian Gillenwater and Jarrett Brown, Ridgefield baseball, each drove in three runs in a win over Mark Morris.

• Mitch Lines, Hockinson baseball, struck out eight batters in a complete-game victory over Hudson’s Bay.

• Karter Graves, King’s Way Christian baseball, struck out six in four scoreless innings, helping the Knights improve to 6-0 this season.

• Katie Schroeder, Camas softball. Another day, another big game for Schroeder. She struck out 13 and also drove in three runs in a 4-2 win over Kelso.

• Andrew McBee, Prairie soccer, assisted on both of his team’s goals in a 2-1 win over La Center.

• Jacob Albee, Union baseball, hit a home run and a double and drove in three runs in a 7-1 win over Skyview.

• Mitchell Pinney, Hockinson soccer, had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win at Woodland. All four Hawks goals were scored in the first half.
