Success seen by local lacrosse teams

Evergreen Lacrosse improved to 5-0 in Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association play with a pair of wins last week.

Evergreen won 13-6 at Kennedy Catholic of Burien and 19-1 at Spanaway Lake.

Coach Shawn Perez said strong defense led by Sydney Nelson, Emily Lahti, Cassidy Morris, Grace Davis and Tara Card led the way to the wins. In Saturday’s win, ELC allowed only one ball past the 30-yard marker.

The offense was led by Olivia Hood, Lisa Peterson and Maddie McKinnon.

ELC visits Curtis of Tacoma for a 5 p.m. Tuesday match. After spring break, Evergreen plays home games at McKenzie Stadium on April 15, April 17 and April 21.

Boys lacrosse

Union still unbeaten — Union Lacrosse improved to 4-0 on the season with a 13-2 win over Sheldon of Eugene, Ore., on March 24.

Union scored the final 11 goals and did not allow a Sheldon shot on goal in the second half.

Scoring for Union were Ben Morasch with three goals and three assists, Trey Chambers with three goals and three assists, Jarad McKinney with two goals, and Jonathan Stell with one goal, one assist, and 11 ground balls. Parker Lindhorst, Chandler Lindhorst, Payton Summers, and Andrew Harrah also scored goals.

Union played a non-league game on Monday at Aloha (Ore) and visits Westview (Ore) on Thursday.

Camas lacrosse loses — Oregon City handed Camas boys lacrosse its first loss of the season, winning 7-5 on March 25.

Harrison Martin scored two goals, Brennan Dyehouse had three assists, Kannon Burchette and Matt Thomas fielded six ground balls apiece for Camas (2-1).

Camas was scheduled to host Sprague of Salem on Monday. Camas visits Churchill of Eugene on Saturday.

Columbia River update — Columbia River lacrosse was idle last week. The program formerly known as King’s Way Lacrosse visits Glencoe of Hillsboro, Ore., at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Columbia River is then idle until it hosts Central Catholic of Portland on April 11.

High school rugby

After a week off, area high school rugby teams resume competition with matches on Saturday.

At Laurin Middle School, Battle Ground hosts Portland Pumas at noon, followed by Prairie hosting Canby at 1:30 p.m.

Union, which leads its league at 4-0, takes on Lincoln of Portland (1-0) at 11:15 a.m. at Lents Park in southeast Portland.

In the Club Championship Division for boys rugby teams with players from multiple high schools, the Clark County Warriors host Bend at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Skyridge Middle School.

The Battle Ground girls rugby team is scheduled to host Columbia County at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Laurin Middle School.
